Mirko Novák is professor for Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Bern. He is co-directing the Swiss-Turkish excavations in Sirkeli Höyük (Turkey) and the Syro-German excavations in Tell Halaf (Syria). Before, he was participating at the expeditions to Tell Sheikh Hassan, Tell Chuera, Tell Sheikh Hamad and Qatna-Mishrife, all in Syria. His scientific focus lies on Syro-Mesopotamian and Anatolian architecture and urbanism on the one hand and chronology on the other. He is member of the executive committee of the Swiss Society for Ancient Near Eastern Studies (SGOA) and co-editor of the scientific journal Altorientalische Forschungen.
